Scuola
The site is characterized by the pavilion-like buildings of the elementary school grouped around a square, as well as the bulky residential high-rises of the Unteraffoltern II settlement standing on supports. The new building responds to this situation with a square and relatively flat inner courtyard typology, which opens up to the surroundings at the first floor level. On the one hand, the new building enters into a dialogue with the dominant high-rise residential buildings and their open first floor design, and on the other hand, its courtyard ties in with the existing sequence of cluster-like open spaces of the elementary school.
With its two generous, open entrances, the school building forms a direct spatial connection to the elementary school extending it into a large overall complex.
